UPDATE: Meeting #7

Hello there!

An outline of our Progress, on the road to Building A School, follows:

Thank you for attending last Saturday’s meeting. Welcome Lori, thanks to the team leads who are working so hard for our school, and thanks to all our participants who are also on this journey. Read on for updates on PHILOSOPHY, FUNDRAISING, LOCATIONS & RESOURCES:

PHILOSOPHY

Excerpts of our School Overview, highlighting our mission statement and the key tenets, have been added to our informational site.  Click Here to Learn more. You can read The Overview in its entirety at the next Community Meeting. It has been scheduled for Saturday, March 5th. Stay tuned for details!

The Curriculum and Environment team (Dana, Jessica, Elizabeth) will be meeting again on Wednesday February 2nd. Please contact us for details on where.

FUNDRAISING

Jesse M. is preparing some upcoming fundraising events with the goal of raising the remainder of our non-profit filing expenses. Stay tuned for information on a Beach Clean-Up, Farmers Market Fundraiser, and an ‘ink cartridge’ recycling program (among other events).

We encourage our participants and contributors to consider themselves permanent members of the fundraising committee.  We welcome your suggestions and ideas and invite you to contact us anytime, especially if you need any information or FAQs to help share our Story with your colleagues, family and friends.

FUNDRAISING IMMEDIATE ACTION: There a couple of ways you can help now…

1. Shop Amazon.com – Whenever you find yourself shopping at Amazon.com (books, diapers, kindle, anything!) purchase via our Rewards Store. A small portion of your purchase is donated to The Knowing Garden and will fund our non-profit filing fees.

2. Craig’s list campaign – Those of us who still have ‘garage sale’ items are going to list them on craigslist.com and have pledged all sales to THE KNOWING GARDEN. You can make those cash donations via the ChipIn Initiative.  Stay tuned for our tips on how to upload, post and achieve your contribution goals.

3. Cash Donations – We accept cash donations via “Donate to the South Bay School Project” initiative powered by ChipIn.  Our organization is pending 501c3 status. Please check with your accountant or tax preparer if you have any questions about 2012 deductions.

LOCATIONS

We are discussing several locations based on accessibility for the greater south bay community, cost and a majority of green or potentially green learning space (outdoors, in the spirit of learning in a natural environment). Contact us with your suggestions and connections.
