TKG KNOW: Philosophy Book Club – Aug 27

playfulParentingOur Book club is open to the community!  We gather around a book, every other month, to deepen our understanding of our selves, our families and our school.

This month, we are reading PLAYFUL PARENTING by Lawrence J. Cohen (buy it from the Amazon link on our home page and a percentage will be donated to the school).  We will meet on Tuesday, August 27th at 7pm at a family residence.  Please register!

Have you ever stepped back to watch what really goes on when your children play? As psychologist Lawrence J. Cohen points out, play is children’s way of exploring the world, communicating deep feelings, getting close to those they care about, working through stressful situations, and simply blowing off steam. That’s why “playful parenting” is so important and so successful in building strong, close bonds between parents and children. Through play we join our kids in their world–and help them to

• Express and understand complex emotions
• Break through shyness, anger, and fear
• Empower themselves and respect diversity
• Play their way through sibling rivalry
• Cooperate without power struggles

We will also discuss how this comes alive in the school setting and in our community.

All are welcome to join and invite friends!

Our next book club will meet on November 19th.  Stay tuned for details!
