Mindfulness Project – Grounding Countdown

The intention of this personal project, for people of all ages, is to facilitate mindfulness practice. Make time to create the poster during a calm, crafting time and discuss the purpose:

A visual, mindfulness reminder of the things that help you feel calm. When you feel anxious or stress and start to feel overwhelmed – see if your poster/flyer can help you settle down and get grounded through a senses countdown.

HOW TO MAKE THE POSTER WITH YOUR CHILD

Talk about using how your senses can help you feel connected to your body. Using each of your senses: sight, taste, touch, smell, hear – list some things that can help you feel calm. Next, write the words (and pictures if helpful) out on the poster – bring children in to write, draw, and creativity to the piece.

Post the flyer in an accessible area. Help your student identify things they can see, smell, taste, hear, and feel during anxious times. Experiment with how you help your student reconnect to their images – each person has their own way.
